It's been some time since I've had to produce a design from scratch. In my day job I'm mainly a back-end developer, and recently I've been getting my hands dirty with the command line and a little sys admin duty. I'm occasionally tasked with putting together a page, to produce a visually pleasing combination of elements. This, I have no problem with. I've noticed lately though, that my ability to simply sit down and produce a design from scratch has been lacking.

After a rather long time, I've finally finished a stable version of the CMS I've been building for the past 6 months or so. As it turned out, the first website to be built using it was a rather tiny portolio website for my good friend and upcoming artist extraordinaire Thomas Fox, which, whilst clearly and concisely displays Tom's artwork, doesn't show off the strengths and flexibility of the CMS framework.

It would be quite easy to lump NBC's new show 'The Event' into the fairly standard FBI 'big secret' American format of television show, à la Flash Forward. It may be a little too early to judge how this programme will play out, although similarly to Flash Forward, 3 episodes in and it has left me hungry for more.

A website was recently brought to my attention - Clients From Hell - the name pretty much says it all. It features snippets submitted by designers who have had the disadvantage of working with less than desirable clients. It's certainly worth a read if you're a designer. I don't often rant about things, but there is a recurring theme throughout the articles that grinds my bones.

In addition to this blog, I intended to use this domain name to host a portfolio of my work. To stand a chance of getting any sort of design job, a portfolio is necessary, and this is something I've been lacking. Before the big Macbook meltdown, I had started to put together some initials designs and actually started work on the website. However, I lost enthusiasm after that went down the drain. However, the work must restart!

Text: dark on light > light on dark

tags: design

A somewhat ridiculous statement you might say, given the design and colour scheme of this blog. And I hate to admit it, but there is something much more readable about dark text on a light background, compared to a light text on a dark background. I feel some examples coming on...

The new design has finally arrived. And it took longer to implement than I thought it would. I will update this message tomorrow when I'm thinking more clearly. There are a few things I'd like to introduce about the new version. There are a few bugs I need to iron out, so if you catch one - please give me a shout (leave a comment). Thank you!

I haven't written a blog in a while. No excuses really, but I hope to get back on track in the upcoming weeks. This is mainly a catch-up post, going over a few things that I probably should've mentioned earlier, that have happened over the last few weeks. Namely:
